Rob is piloting an Eachine Racer 250. Turns out that Jase bought the exact same bundle around the same time. I don't think these guys had colluded in any way. It was just a coincidence.
They bought it RTF so it came with an Eachine i6, a re-branded Flysky i6 Transmitter and a 7 inch LCD monitor (that you can mount onto the controller to view the FPV camera footage in real-time).
Jase bought the Eachine VR D2 that I also have on order. The VR-007 of Rob's doesn't have the same resolution the VR D2 does. He's told me he sometimes struggles to see tree branches when flying under trees. This made me want to spend the little bit extra for the higher resolution and built in DVR.
Back to the story, we meet up and I'm learning the ropes already. I definitely came without the basics.
Must have:
- Chair - Something that can fold up in the car.
- Hat - If you're sitting in the sun you're going to need it.
- Sunscreen - See above.
- Aerogard - The places we fly seem to attract shit you'd rather not attract.
- Charged batteries
- A quad and some spares by way of props etc
- Transmitter
- SD Card with space for recording.
- A Case or Bag to carry the quad.
So we setup shop and Rupert rocks up. Neither of us have met Rupert before and he's brought his brand spanking new acquisition that he's built, using Dan's recommended spreadsheet(TM). It's great to put a face to the name, but at the time I didn't realise that I didn't know the name either. He hadn't been brought into Leet Drone Club yet. It would only be a few days later that he joined in though. Not long after Dan rocks up. It's the first time I've met him too.
Rob took his drone for a fly and then hands me the controller. "Are you sure?" I ask him. I've never flown anything other than my CX-10 (and a crappy infra red helicopter that you can buy for $10 from a dodgy guy at a shopping centre stall that has buggered off the next day when you go back cause you've broken it - but I didn't break mine for about 2 months.)
"I've got spare props and arms, you'll be fine" Rob says.
I take the controller and just fly some LOS. I flew for maybe minutes and handed it back - intact and still fully operational.
That was all I needed. I had to have one of those bastards, as soon as they were back in stock again. Only the bundles with Mode 1 controllers were still available and although Rob bought Mode 1 and swapped the joysticks over to make it Mode 2, I couldn't be stuffed buggerising around doing that.
I can wait. I think.
